Not everyone can afford a personal trainer. It was this type of thinking that led professional trainer Tony Horton to create a workout video series that was targeted towards the average family household. It has become such a hit, in fact, that not only average home owners using it- but celebrities and politicians as well.

Tony Horton started his career as an actor who was interested in body building. Tony was a supporter of the lean muscle routine from the start; not wanting to go just for bulk and mass. As Tony progressed through his training, he started perfecting techniques and eventually changed professions from a starving actor to a well known exercise instructor.

Again it seemed like Horton would change his goals, as he soon became a business owner that catered to well-known aristocrats. Soon enough he was attracting the attention of media outlets who wanted him to create his own televised series on working the body in easy steps. Tony already had experience with writing routines for magazines, and was more than qualified for the job, which would eventually spawn the P90X system.

Soon Tony’s popularity took shape in the form of a series known as the Power 90 routine. Power 90 was a hit among consumers because it used real routines that would be similar to those used in a boot camp environment. Known as boot camp for the body by some, this routine rose in popularity on infomercial networks. Soon after, something much more efficient came from the body building expert.

Just six years later, Horton announced the release of the P90X system. It was hailed as a much more strenuous workout routine that would maximize efficiency, muscle gain, and muscle toning ability. Due to its popularity, it has become one of the most aired infomercials in recent years. The parent company of the product, Beachbody, also states that a large portion of all sales are as a direct result of the P90X workout system they circulate.

P90X is no push over when it comes to popularity. Although other infomercials have been successful, very few have pushed mountains such as that of P90X. Stated to be in the sales number of around 1.5 million as of July in 2009, the system has been growing in popularity for many months. Even congress members have been coached to use the program- which should vouch for its reliability.
